They are Watching You

Every move you make
Every step you take
Every move you make
Every step you take
I'll be watching you
These are the haunting lyrics of a song that rode the airwaves long before the Internet was prevalent. I am a social media addict in need of  serious cure. I love social media, and I suppose it is because I enjoy the writing process, and the Internet affords me an audience of similarly addicted counterparts.. Oh don't deny it, or you have no right to tell the alcohol or cocaine addict that he is in denial. You are a social media addict. Admit it.
At times I think it is time for a Social Media Addict Anonymous program in the Caribbean, because I am absolutely certain this addiction is causing many businesses across the Caribbean region, millions of dollars in wasted man/woman hours each and every year. Addiction is a crazy thing, and there is nothing worse than a bored addict; and worse yet,a bored, YOUNG addict.
Cyberspace is teaming with young, bored Face book and other forms of social media addicts. These are the ones who are perennially snapping photos ( which they refer to as pics) of themselves with their cell phones. Sometimes they are so bored that they even snap photos of their food, and in my opinion, hardly anything looks as sloppy as food on the Internet. No matter how tasty food appears to the natural eyes, it is difficult to make it look palatable on social media. It is more likely to resemble a pile of bull....
What I find very eye-opening is when I recognize that there are nearly seven billion people in the world. They are scattered all over the globe with a few on satellites in space. There are millions on air planes zooming through the sky, millions on cruise ships traversing the oceans of the globe, thousands in army, navy and marine uniforms, and yet thousands more in no uniform at all. They are fighting in Iraq, Pakistan, Egypt, Israel and Palestine. There are scientists, doctors, lawyers, thieves and criminals, terrorists and terror fighters, murderers, lovers, racists and those who are tolerant of all humanity, gays and straight, sane and insane, the prisoner and the liberated, politicians and priests, perhaps even the pope at the Vatican in Rome. Any number of these near seven billions people anywhere in, on or under the ocean could be, at this very moment, glaring at us, drawing their faces closer to the computer screen to get a closer look at the photos I posted on the Internet last night or just a few seconds ago. I simply find it amazing that so many millions of people could, right at this very moment,be watching you and me.
