Dollar and Drakes

Televangelists Dollar and Drakes cause many of their harshest critics great distress. The claim is that as ministers of religion their lifestyle is much too extravagant: they fly in private jets and live in multimilliondollar mansions with Jacuzzis.
Once in a while I  turn my television to The Trinity Broadcasting Network for no other reason that that I enjoy listening to people talk, and honestly, both Dollar and Drakes are great speakers. These men hold the attention of their congregation from beginning to end. They involve the people , giving them words, sentences or phrases to repeat; the use of repetition is widely regarded as a very effective speaking technique.
It is quite clear that these men come well prepared. They know their stuff. It is clear that they study their work and plan their program. They leave nothing to chance. Being far from predictable in their  making of the next statement makes these men extremely entertaining.
The presentation style of either man is noticeably different: Drakes is, broadly speaking, very physically demonstrative, employing every nervecell in his body to  secure the emotional engagement of his congregation. He flits across and around the stage like an ant constructing its nest. He suddenly jerks his body  in one direction or another when caught in a fit of excitement at any sudden glare of new realization or revelation. Drakes might suddenly leap into the air or spin on his carpet, his chin raised heavenward while he struts the perfect, confident quality of his faith into the midst of his riveted congregation, awaiting the lingering, hanging drop of his next word.
One can neither tire of hearing this man as one hangs in wait for one word to lifts or challenge the hearer.
Dollar is a completely different kettle of fish. He is a great teacher, whether or not one agrees with his religious philosophy and doctrine.
Dollar has the ability to make the Bible seem like a new book every time he opens it. His perspectives and insights are a marvel, because he studies his material thoroughly it seems, and he is able to observe otherwise unrecognizable twists and turns in events on the pages of his Bible. This is not automatic. It is evidence that the man is a hard worker who takes seriously his duty to the minds of his congregants. Even in cases when the Biblical story is familiar to the people, where Dollar might take it, is not.
I cannot say whether other heavily criticized televangelist earned their lifestyles or not, but in my opinion,Creflo Dollar and T.D. Jakes do.

  1. Very interesting debate! I believe that God shall not withhold any good thing from his people and the Men and Women of the Cloth along with all God's faithful believers deserve to be pampered and enjoy the best there is in this life ... as well as being rich in Spirit!

We need to have another chat Mr. Tatem! Have a great day!
